The Norton Commando is another classic British parallel twin, launched by Norton in 1967. Initially a nominal 750 cc, in 1973 it became an 850 cc, actually 828 cc.
During its ten years in production, the Commando was popular all over the world. In the UK it won the Motorcycle News “Machine of the Year” award for five successive years from 1968-1972. Unlike the Triumph and the BSA, the Norton’s engine, gearbox and swing arm are isolated from the frame on rubber ‘isolastic’ mountings to reduce vibration and increase rider comfort.
Our Norton Commando is an immaculate example of the Mk1 850, built in 1974. We’ve put new barrels, silencers and various other bits on it since we’ve had it. It’s fast and noticeably more modern than the T120 Bonnie and the BSA Rocket Gold Star. It even has a disc brake and indicators.
